«There is a real jazz explosion happening each musical autumn in Ulyanovsk. There is no other way the international the «Jazz Province» annual festival might be called. Events of such size are truly rare, that is why the festival would never be left unnoticed.»

Annual XV International festival the «Jazz Province» gathered very impressive and unique performers with a world-wide fame.

So the specialty of the nowadays festival was coming of the world-known star, saxophonist Eric Mariental. It was the main sensation of the festival. A graduate of Berklee Musical College entered the world of jazz in 90’s and was immediately noticed by a legendary pianist Chick Coria, whom Eric was working with during his participation in Chick’s «Electric Band». Mariental is loved by a significant part of Russians because he was the one who invented that is known as an opening for «Santa Barbara» TV-series that was broadcasted every night for years and years. World famous celebrities like him too and are looking for cooperation with him.

Another «discovery» of this year was Mike Clark and his «Carnival of Soul» (USA) project. Clark gained his fame in the middle of 70’s by the way of becoming a member of the «Headhunters» ensemble under Herby Hancock’s management. Also Mike was a participant of a legendary British jazz-fusion band called «Brand X», founded by Fill Collins in 1975.

Another event of the festival was the performance of Igor Buthman and his Big-Band on the stage.

During the festivals tour around cities of Russia a real pleiad of different musicians from various countries took part in it. French vocalist from Zimbabve Shenghethai with her quartet called «Rainbow Music»; the international English-Italian-Russian project called «The Anthology of new Jazz» represented by George Haslam, Steve Waterman, Oleg Yudanov, Steve Kershow and Stephano Pastor; «Made in France» band under guitarist Andrei Bondarchuk’s management; an American guitarist Dan Wilson.

Guitarist Mads Kyolby, a permanent participant of the «Jazz Province» festival, played with a Swedish-Danish quartet of Fabian Callerdal. Callerdal was given a title of the «Jazz musician of the year» in Sweden in 2006. Now he is one of the most popular young European jazz pianists. пианистов.

Among the other participants of the festival there was Estonian saxophonist Lembit Saarsalu; Leonid Vintskevich; sextet «Mansound» from Kiev; American drummer Joel Taylor; bass-guitar player Kip Reed; contrabass player Steve Kershow; saxophonist Nikolai Vintskevich.

Nowadays festival will be remembered as the longest jazz celebration in the «Jazz Province» history, that continued for two months of the autumn. 19 concerts and 11 master-class events were successfully held in 10 cities of Russia.
